Appalachian Trail, Woody Gap, Georgia, USA.

I hiked some of the Appalachian Trail the so far coldest day this year. Freezing winds was relentlessly blowing my face off.

I recently read a brillant book called "A Walk In The Woods" by Bill Bryson.

It was the perfect travel book, about discovering the eastern American wilderness by hiking a famous trail.

This long trail is called "The Appalachian Trail". It stretches 2200 miles from Georgia in the south to Maine in the north.

You can walk for days on this trail, simply seeing nothing but mountains and trees. Thick, dense woods with loads of wildlife to keep you company.

I am so thankful I got a unique chance to taste a small bite of the big cake.

I went on a one day hike on the "AT", setting off at Woody Gap, Georgia, shortly after the beginning of the trail.

All trees had shredded their leaves for the winter.

The hikers was avoiding the trail this day. Although it was a slightly cloudy day, the view was spectacular. In the horizon the big city of Atlanta was visible 75 miles away.

One day I hope to set off for walking the whole trail. --- Because I believe this would show me the truth of the American woods and let me discover what wilderness this great land was once blessed with from top to bottom.

My wife gazing at the wide views of the trail.
