Blue springs, Florida, USA

If you like birds, you will surely like the wetlands of Florida. No places attract birds more, because the feeding opportunities are endless.

In Florida the land is blessed with lots and lots of water. The water comes in different forms: lakes, ponds, streams, rivers and just plain wet and muddy swamps.

Where all these forms of water meet, you will have a wetland area. With more mosquitos than anywhere else.

I got to the Blue Springs State Park, just an hour before dusk. I didn't have much time, since staying there in the dark isn't safe because of the snakes crawling across the trails.

I got to see a spectacular sight there!

Hundreds of black vultures and turkey vultures flew in from all over the wetland area. They all swooped down in a small wooded area for a social night's rest.

The vultures are amazing, big birds with extraordinary eyesight and smell senses, that they use to find carrions.

Songbirds and sparrows also tugged in everywhere in the reeds and high grass. The herons and cranes flew around with majestic wingbeats, looking for a good spot, to be safe in the night.

But these swamps are never safe for a bird!

Danger lures.

A grunting sound from an alligator was also to be heard in the dusk.
