Tarantula from Bolivia

For many years I have kept lots of tarantulas in vivariums in my home.

In 2011 I finally came to experience the Amazon Rainforest in northern Bolivia.

It was amazing to finally see these well-nourished and peaceful tarantulas in their right element: the extremely wet and lush jungle.

Almost immediately, as I arrived to the Amazon, I discovered a tarantula. It was a treeliving Avicularia species that lived in its tunnel web on the outside of my cabin.

I had brought a long pair of tweezers from home to this exact purpose. With the tweezers around a piece of freshly caught cricket I lured it out of the web. The tarantula snatched the cricket from my tweezers!

Its poison is not dangerous for humans.

But it moves in rapid jerks and signs with an uncomfortable bite if it is stressed.

So I advice that you enjoy them at a distance.
